Lesson 1 – overview

In conjunction with choreographer and instructor Hayley Wheatley we are delighted to bring the Improver Line Dance Instructor course – Level 2!  This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to expand upon your beginner classes.  One of the founding aims of the ELD Association is to help improve and maintain a high industry standard in line dance, our instructor course is part of this, ensuring that all instructors who take it are given the same information and, knowing that with the ELD stamp of approval, they will be teaching to the best of their ability in a professional manner. The course content is delivered online allowing you to take the course at your own pace, and when you are confident that you understand the details behind running an improver class and how to teach it, there is a short question and answer assessment after which you will be required to send us a video of you teaching and then counting in, calling and dancing an approved script.

We have split the course into five further lessons:

Lesson 2 – Preparation for teaching an improver class – this section recaps some of the legal requirements for running a line dance class, including basic health & safety information, dance injuries and more advanced pieces of equipment and software you may wish to use in your class.  Most importantly, this section covers how to teach a mixed level class and how to bring your dancers on to the next level that you know they are ready for!

Lesson 3 – Teaching an improver + class –  this section will demonstrate the various different ways of teaching, methods to help you bring on your dancers and solutions to questions and difficulties your dancers may have.  This includes tags, restarts, bridges and phrased dances.

Lesson 4 – Further line dance knowledge – here we cover different styles on line dance including step mnemonics, understanding BPM and musical terminology.

Lesson 5 – Basic partner dance and contraline – this section covers the very basics of partner dancing and contraline dances, with some of the biggest line dance names releasing contraline dances recently, it’s a growing style in our industry!

Lesson 6 – Thinking about social events – social events are a great way to really boost the line dance community you are building, not only are they fun but they are great for building your dancers’ confidence.  In this section we cover all the steps needed to set and run your very own successful social event.

Assessment – There will be a short question and answer section for you to complete before you can upload a video demonstrating how you would teach and then call a beginner line dance.
